Diaster Has Struck

The unthinkable has happened: I cannot read, for the time being. I (being the klutz I am) broke my glasses and cannot read for more than 10-15 minutes without getting a splitting headache.

I just ordered a new pair this morning and they should be here within a week or so and reading shall resume! Until then, I am planning on making some posts about my favorite book (The Great Gatsby) and my current book situation as it is about to change drastically.

CURRENTLY READING: It's Kind of a Funny Story

I am currently reading It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. So far, I'm about half way in and it is absolutely fantastic. If you don't know, it's about a young teen named Craig who checks himself into a psychiatric hospital when he almost kills himself.

I would be lying if I didn't say I mostly read novels with female protagonists and if they are male, they are usually older than 15 year old Craig. It's interesting to read a novel from the perspective of someone I wouldn't normally read. It broadens my scope of novels as well as people in general. While Craig is not like every 15 year old boy, he is more like them than say Elizabeth Bennet or Katniss Everdeen.


I'll let you know my final verdict on the book when I finish it, which will probably be soon.

A Book Collector

Now I wouldn't exactly call myself a book collector. I don't look for specific editions or anything, but I do like owning books. Someday, I will have a home library. It will happen.

I currently own 113 books (not including the dictionaries and textbooks I own, which I don't count) that I call my own (my parents own some books that I have access to when I'm home, which isn't often). I don't have any sort of concept of whether or not that's a large number of books to own or not. I know people with far less than me and I know people with a much larger collection. How many books do you own? Maybe we can get a poll going.

I have made a master book list. Which I will try to update whenever I make a post about a particular book and have a link to said post or whenever I get new books.

Hi! *waves*

My name is Brooke and I love books. ...that sounds like I'm introducing myself at an AA meeting or something. "Hello, my name is Brooke and I'm a bibliophilic".

But really, I do love books quite a bit. I love reading books, I love buying books (much to my wallet's dismay), I even love writing books, occasionally (OK, really just once a year, but still).

I've started this blog because, you guessed it, I love books. Not only do I love books, but I love sharing said love. So join me, as I declare my love of books to the world.
